Do we always need to carry quarters?

I last carried quarters when I lived in an apartment where the laundry machines needed quarters to operate.  The time before that was when the electric meter needed, well not quarters but 10p coins, or was  it shillings, anyway it was a long time ago.  why then do I have to find quarters when I park my car.  They are hard to find when you most need them.  Why... »
